Preparing YOUNG AmericanS to
pursue their dreams and STRIVE
FOR NATIONAL RECONCILIATION

Own Your History® (OYH) creates inclusive fact-based U.S. History curricula, resources & workshops.  We prepare students and adults of all ages and backgrounds to become better-informed citizens for advancing our nation’s promise of achieving a more equitable, just, and democratic society. Americans have unfinished business.

Our divisions are grounded in American history and reflected in today’s conflicts.

OYH focuses on historical facts as a basis for better understanding our shared past. This creates opportunities to work together in building a better future.

OYH is an initiative of The Reconciliation Education Project, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

All OYH lessons, handbooks, and multimedia materials have been published in digital form on Open Education Resources (OER) Commons. All are freely available for non-commercial educational users under a Creative Commons license, here.

"All of us benefit from inheritances we did not choose and cannot change. Growing up involves deciding which part of the inheritance you want to claim as your own, and how much you have to pay for the rest of it. This is as true for nations as it is for individuals."

— Susan Neiman, Einstein Forum

"A frank and honest effort in classrooms to face up to the darkest side of our past, to understand the ways in which social evils evolve, should in no way lead to cynicism and despair or to a repudiation of our heritage. The development of maturity means a capacity to deal with the truth."

— David Brion Davis
